Seller: borealman (637) 100%, Location: Kenora, Ontario, Ships to: CA, Item: 321967221526 This is a very unique piece of Kenora, Ontario history, one of two fireplace mantles from the house built for what was the then first Sheriff of "Rainy River District of Ontario". See image 2 with article in local newspaper about the house's demolition and story. This fireplace was dismantled into pieces and removed from the house by the owner. It is sitting in storage awaiting a buyer. Pretty sure this is made of slate although not 100% sure. It is a stone of some kind. Painted surface to look like wood. I'm pretty sure this was built when the house was built - which was 1880s. The slate mantle is 6 feet long and 14 inches deep. Fireplace width is 42 inches wide by 46 inches high. The pictures of it disassembled shows a white substance on it, this is the old mortar. There is a small chip in bottom of one panel and marks here and there but it is an exquisite piece of work. The fact it has a known history makes it that much more desirable. Local pick up only, we can help get to a local trucking firm to any buyer. Buyer pays all shipping costs including customs or excise tax costs if applicable. these are in addition to the listed price. Buyer has option of picking up item themselves as well.
